Credential Procedures

New educational requirements were implemented as of January 1997.
Be sure to obtain an evaluation of your transcript(s) from the office of the District Secretary-Treasurer before beginning credential courses.

Application Process
If you are already in the process or just beginning the process of applying for your credentials, as soon as your file is complete it will be sent to your Area Credential Committee Chair for your credential interview.   The Credential Committee Chair will contact you to schedule your interview date and time.  There may be times when it is necessary to wait a month or two for the credential interview appointment.

Deadlines

Certified or Licensed: No Deadlines - Files are sent to the Credential Committee for final credential interview on an ongoing basis.  ** Allow 5+ months.

Ordination: Deadline is February 1st - Fully completed ordination application files are due by February 1st.  Final credential interviews must be conducted and application file returned to this office by deadline. ** Allow a minimum of 4+ months for this process.

Bylaw requirements must be met for each credential:  General Council Bylaws, Article VII, Section 3.

Steps and Procedures

Step 1.   Be aware of the educational requirements. Contact the Secretary-Treasurer's office with any questions and/or evaluation of courses you have previously taken.  When courses are nearly completed for the level of credential you are seeking, contact  the Secretary-Treasurer's office for an application packet.  Those seeking first time credentials should request an Official Application packet, which requires a photo, transcripts and an application fee.  Those advancing their credentials should request an Upgrade Application packet.   A downloadable application packet for both is available.

Step 2.  When you receive your application, carefully follow the Checklist and instructions.

Step 3.  You will be notified when the Credential exam test date is set at the Indiana District Office.

Step 4.  Once the application file is COMPLETE, it will be prepared for interview and sent to the applicant's Credential Committee.  The Credential Committee Chair will contact the applicant for an interview appointment with the Area Credential Committee.

Step 5.  The recommendations of the Interviewing Committees are submitted to the Executive Presbytery.  Upon their recommendation, applications are sent to the General Council in Springfield for final approval.  Fellowship cards & certificates are sent to the Indiana District for issuing by mail to the new certificate holders.  New certificate holders are publicly recognized at the next District Council ONLY AFTER they actually have their credential in hand.
